— Why Mainsprung —
The Difference Is in the Detail
Watch repair is not a commodity. What separates a considered service from a hurried one is rarely visible at first glance — but you will notice it in how the piece performs afterwards, and in whether the experience felt right at the time.
Back to Home— What We Bring —
Six Reasons to Choose the Mainsprung Bench
Experienced Watchmakers
The bench team has worked on mechanical and quartz movements across a wide range of makes and conditions. No piece arrives without someone on hand who has seen something similar before.
Defined Service Process
Every watch follows a consistent intake and assessment process. Nothing is done informally. Written records accompany the piece from arrival to collection.
In-House Ultrasonic Bath
Movement cleaning is done on-site using an ultrasonic bath. This is not outsourced, and there is no guesswork about whether parts were properly cleaned before reassembly.
Clear Communication
We explain what we find, what we propose to do, and what it will cost — in plain terms. If something changes during the service, we tell you before we act on it.
Transparent Pricing
Published starting prices give you a reference point. Final quotes are confirmed in writing before any work begins. There are no charges that were not agreed in advance.
Service Documentation
Every completed service comes with a written record of what was done. This builds a useful service history for the watch, particularly valuable for older or sentimental pieces.
Professional Expertise
Work Done by People Who Know Watches
The Mainsprung bench is not staffed by generalist technicians rotating through different device types. The team works exclusively on watches, which means the skills stay sharp and the habits stay appropriate to the medium. Mechanical movements, quartz calibres, leather strap work, and metal bracelet refurbishment all require different knowledge and a different touch — and that knowledge is kept current.
- Over two decades of combined bench experience
- Mechanical and quartz movement specialisation
- Heritage and vintage pieces handled with appropriate caution
Equipment & Method
Tools That Match the Work
The workshop is equipped with an ultrasonic cleaning bath for movement components, a timing machine for post-regulation checks, and a range of hand tools suited to the varied scale of watch components. None of this is especially glamorous, but it is what the work actually requires — and having it in-house means no delays and no third-party dependency for core service steps.
- Ultrasonic bath for movement part cleaning
- Timing machine for regulation accuracy verification
- All primary steps completed in-house
Customer Experience
A Considered, Unhurried Approach
Watch owners vary considerably in how much they know about their pieces and what they want from a service. Some arrive with detailed technical questions; others simply want to know whether the watch can be made to run again. Both are welcome and both are treated with the same seriousness. We match our communication to the person we are speaking with and do not push for decisions that are not ready to be made.
- No-pressure intake conversations
- Progress updates for longer heritage work
- Collection receipt system for security and peace of mind
Value & Pricing
Transparent Costs, No Surprises
Service pricing at Mainsprung starts from published figures and is confirmed in writing before work begins. The scope of what is included is discussed at intake and does not expand without discussion. For heritage pieces, a detailed written quote is provided after the initial assessment — so you know what you are agreeing to before anything is touched.
- Published starting prices for all services
- Written quote agreed before work commences
- No additional charges without prior approval
Results & Records
A Watch That Runs — and a Record of Why
The outcome of any service is a watch in better condition than it arrived in — but the written record is an equally important part of what we produce. For watches with sentimental value or long-term ownership intentions, having a documented service history adds to the piece in a meaningful way. It also gives future repairers useful context about what has already been done.
- Post-service timing data included for mechanical work
- Written notes on condition and observations
- Progress photographs for heritage service clients

— What Sets Us Apart —
Features That Are Less Common Than They Should Be
Photographic Progress Updates
For longer heritage services, we photograph the movement at key stages and share those images with you. It is not a standard part of most repair services, but it is something clients consistently find reassuring.
Post-Regulation Timing Data
Mechanical movements are tested on a timing machine after assembly and regulation. The reading is recorded and included in the service notes — giving you a concrete reference for how the movement was performing at completion.
Step-by-Step Owner Approval
For heritage pieces in particular, no restoration step proceeds without the owner reviewing the plan. This is deliberately paced — the watch has likely waited years; rushing it now would not serve anyone well.
Collection Receipt System
A numbered collection receipt is issued at intake. The watch is only released on presentation of this receipt. It is a small measure, but it removes any ambiguity about who the piece belongs to.
