Three Services, Each Scoped to the Piece
From a routine quartz battery and clean to a full heritage movement overhaul, Mainsprung offers three service levels designed to match what your watch actually needs.
Back to Home— Methodology —
How We Approach Service Work
Every piece that arrives at Mainsprung is assessed on its own terms. We do not apply a fixed checklist regardless of condition — we look at what the watch presents, consider what it has likely been through, and discuss with the owner what a sensible scope of work looks like given the piece and its purpose.
Service work is confirmed in writing before it starts. For straightforward jobs, this is a brief note of scope and price. For heritage pieces, it is a more detailed plan that covers each step individually. Either way, you know what is happening before it happens.
Step 1
Assessment
Visual inspection under magnification. Condition noted. Service plan drafted.
Step 2
Agreement
Scope and price confirmed in writing. No work proceeds without your sign-off.
Step 3
Service & Record
Work completed at the bench. Written record prepared. Watch collected by owner with documentation.

Quartz Movement Refresh
A practical service for quartz watches that need a battery replacement and a careful look over. The bench team replaces the battery, inspects the gasket, performs a basic water-resistance check (non-pressure-tested unless specifically requested), and cleans the case, hands, and dial area as needed. A brief written note accompanies the watch on collection, summarising any issues observed during the work. A friendly option for everyday wearers who want their watch running again with a tidy presentation.
- Battery replacement with correct cell for calibre
- Gasket inspection and replacement where needed
- Basic water-resistance assessment
- Case, hands, and dial area clean
- Written condition note at collection

Bracelet & Strap Refurbishment
In-shop refurbishment of metal bracelets and leather straps, including link adjustment, deep cleaning, and light polishing to refresh tired finishes. For leather straps, the team offers re-stitching where suitable and conditioning of intact leather. New strap fittings can be sourced on request. The work is paced to suit each piece — no attempt is made to rush a brittle band or worn case lugs that need gentle handling.
- Link sizing and adjustment
- Deep clean of bracelet or strap
- Light polishing to refresh metal finish
- Leather re-stitching and conditioning where material allows
- Replacement fittings available on request

Long-Form Heritage Service
A multi-week bench service for older or sentimental pieces, including full strip-down of the movement, ultrasonic cleaning, regulation, dial review, and case restoration as needed. Progress is shared through detailed photographs and a final written report. The shop proceeds with each step only after the owner has reviewed the plan, so the work pace stays comfortable and considered. Well suited to pieces that have not been serviced in many years, or to watches with particular personal significance.
- Full movement strip-down and parts inspection
- Ultrasonic cleaning of all movement components
- Re-oiling and regulation with timing machine verification
- Dial review and case restoration assessment
- Progress photographs and final written report
- Step-by-step owner approval throughout

Protocols Across All Services
Secure Chain of Custody
Each watch is numbered on intake and stored securely when not on the bench. Collection requires the intake receipt.
Written Pre-Service Agreement
Scope and cost are confirmed in writing before any work commences, regardless of service type.
Pre-Work Visual Assessment
The watch is examined and its condition documented before the service begins — creating a clear baseline record.
No Unilateral Scope Expansion
If additional work is identified mid-service, the owner is consulted before any action is taken. Work does not proceed without agreement.
Documentation at Collection
A written service note is provided with every completed job. For heritage work, this is a full report with timing data and photographs.
Privacy of Owner Information
Contact details and watch records are held privately and used only for service communication. They are not shared with third parties.
