Terms & Conditions
Mainsprung · 8 Lebuh Pantai, 10300 George Town, Pulau Pinang
Last reviewed: May 2025
These Terms and Conditions govern the relationship between Mainsprung (referred to as "the workshop," "we," or "us") and any person who brings a watch or related item to us for inspection, assessment, or servicing (referred to as "the owner" or "you"). By leaving a piece with us, you agree to the terms set out here.
1. Acceptance of Work
We accept watch repair and restoration work at our discretion. We reserve the right to decline any piece we consider unsuitable for our workshop, including but not limited to items where the required work falls outside our capabilities or where the condition of the piece poses a risk of further damage during service.
An initial assessment is not a commitment to complete the work. Where we proceed, a written or verbal agreement on the scope and estimated cost will be provided before substantive work begins.
2. Estimates and Pricing
Prices quoted at the time of intake are estimates based on information available at that stage. If, during the course of work, we identify additional requirements that would materially affect the cost, we will contact you before proceeding.
You are entitled to decline additional work at that point. In such cases, we will charge only for the work completed to date, and the piece will be returned in its current state.
All prices are quoted and payable in Malaysian Ringgit (RM).
3. Care of Items
We handle every piece with reasonable care appropriate to its condition and type. We take photographs of items at intake and at key stages during work for reference and documentation purposes.
We are not responsible for pre-existing damage or deterioration that was present at the time the piece was left with us. Where we identify pre-existing concerns during assessment, we will note them in writing.
For pieces described as sentimental or of significant personal value, we encourage owners to communicate this clearly at intake so that we can take additional care in our documentation and handling.
4. Turnaround Times
Estimated completion times are provided in good faith but are not binding commitments. Times may be affected by the availability of parts, the complexity of work discovered during service, or workshop capacity.
We will notify you of any significant delay and provide a revised timeframe where possible. If a delay is unacceptable, you may request the return of your piece without charge for work not yet completed.
5. Collection and Unclaimed Items
Once we notify you that work is complete, we ask that you arrange collection within 30 days. After this period, a storage fee may apply. Items left unclaimed for more than six months after notification of completion may, at our discretion, be disposed of or donated to a horological institution, with proceeds applied to outstanding charges if applicable.
We will make reasonable attempts to contact you before taking any such steps.
6. Payment
Payment is due upon collection of the piece. We accept cash and bank transfer. We do not release items until payment has been received in full.
For large or multi-week service engagements, we may request a deposit before commencing work. This will be discussed and agreed with you at intake.
7. Liability
Our liability for any loss or damage arising from work carried out by Mainsprung is limited to the reasonable cost of re-doing the affected work or, where that is not appropriate, a sum not exceeding the original service fee paid.
We do not accept liability for loss of market value, loss of use, or consequential losses unless caused by our gross negligence or wilful misconduct.
We strongly recommend that owners hold appropriate insurance for pieces of significant monetary value while they are in transit to and from the workshop.
8. Warranty on Work
We stand behind the work we carry out. If a fault attributable to our workmanship arises within 90 days of collection, we will assess and address it without additional charge, subject to the piece not having been subject to misuse, impact, or exposure to conditions beyond those appropriate for the watch.
This does not cover general wear, battery life, strap wear, or faults unrelated to the service performed.
9. Governing Law
These Terms and Conditions are governed by the laws of Malaysia. Any dispute arising from the engagement of Mainsprung's services shall be subject to the jurisdiction of the courts of Malaysia.
10. Amendments
We may update these Terms and Conditions from time to time. The version in effect at the time your piece is accepted by us shall apply to that engagement. Current terms are always available on this page.
